This unusual project was commissioned by Bath and East Somerset council to restore the glass pavement lights in the Georgian Spa City of Bath. The glass blocks were all individually cast from hot glass ladled directly from the furnace. For this particular restoration project it was required that the new glass pavements exactly matched the original. The original glass had a purple hues of varying shades, to recreate this as faithfully as possible we coloured the glass in furnace purple. We designed a special graphite mould that created each block. On the underside of each block is a prism that refracts the daylight above into the subterranean Victorian shopping level below.
